Too Early Top NCAA Tournament Seeds

It’s almost February, when this will really matter and teams will be jockeying for tournament positions and seeds with each conference game.

There were only minor changes since last week. Kentucky is playing well and has crept up to the 2-seed line. Texas Tech is reeling a bit and Purdue and Louisville are trending upward.

Here’s a look at my top four seed lines if the NCAA Tournament were to start today:

1 SEEDS:

Duke (18-2) Best win: Virginia, 72-70.

Virginia (18-1) Best win: vs. Wisconsin, 53-46.

Michigan (19-1) Best win: at Villanova, 73-46.

Michigan State (18-3) Best win: Purdue, 77-59.

2 SEEDS:

Tennessee (18-1) Best win: vs. Gonzaga, 76-73.

Gonzaga (19-2) Best win: vs. Duke, 89-87.

Kentucky (16-3) Best win: vs. North Carolina, 80-72.

Kansas (16-4) Best win: vs. Michigan State, 92-87.

3 SEEDS:

North Carolina (15-4) Best win: Gonzaga, 103-90.

Purdue (14-6) Best win: at Wisconsin, 84-80 OT.

Louisville (15-5) Best win: at North Carolina, 83-62.

Wisconsin (14-6) Best win: Michigan, 64-54.

4 SEEDS:

Iowa State (15-5) Best win: at Texas Tech, 68-64.

Houston (20-1) Best win: LSU, 82-76.

Texas Tech (17-4) Best win: at Texas, 68-62.

Marquette (18-3) Best win: vs. Louisville, 77-74 OT.

Dropped Out: Virginia Tech.

Best of the Rest: Villanova; Virginia Tech; Maryland; Oklahoma; LSU; Nevada; Kansas State; Mississippi State; Iowa.
