Way Too Early NCAA Tournament Top Seeds

No movement at all in the top 2 seed lines, despite Gonzaga’s loss at North Carolina. Gonzaga’s good wins versus Duke, Arizona and at Creighton still look great next to two losses that no one would be ashamed of. The Zags currently have the 8th toughest strength of schedule according to KenPom.

There was some movement in the 3 and 4 seed lines, thanks to the aforementioned Tar Heels looking great on Saturday night and Kelvin Sampson’s Houston squad staying undefeated after two solid home wins last week. Watch out for the Cougars and I ain’t talking ‘bout the Kardashians.

Here’s a look at the top four seed lines for the NCAA Tournament as of today:

Michigan (11-0) Best win: at Villanova, 73-46.

Way Too Early NCAA Tournament Top Seeds

Not much changed in terms of the inhabitants of the top four seed lines, but there was shuffling within, due to some big games last week.

Tennessee’s big neutral court win over Gonzaga vaulted the Vols from a 3rd seed to a 2nd seed and brought the Zags just a couple notches down the 1 seed line. Michigan, who has looked like the best team in the country thus far, finally gets the number 1 overall seed after staying undefeated while beginning Big Ten play. Kansas moves from a 2 seed to the second 1 seed, thanks to remaining undefeated despite a daunting strength of schedule.

Here’s a look at the top four seed lines for the NCAA Tournament as of today:

1 SEEDS:

Michigan (10-0) Best win: at Villanova, 73-46.

Kansas (8-0) Best win: vs. Tennessee, 87-81 OT.

Gonzaga (9-1) Best win: vs. Duke, 89-87.

Duke (9-1) Best win: vs. Auburn, 78-72.

2 SEEDS:

Virginia (9-0) Best win: vs. Wisconsin, 53-46.

Nevada (10-0) Best win: vs. Arizona State, 72-66.

Tennessee (7-1) Best win: vs. Gonzaga, 76-73.

Michigan State (8-2) Best win: at Florida, 63-59.

3 SEEDS:

Wisconsin (8-2) Best win: at Iowa, 72-66.

Auburn (7-1) Best win: vs. Arizona, 73-57.

Ohio State (8-1) Best win: at Cincinnati, 64-56.

Way Too Early Top Seeds

We’ve reached December now, so these rankings are steadily becoming more relevant (Ok, maybe I’m pushing it, but humor me). Still, conference play has begun in the Big Ten and the landscape is starting to take shape to the point where we can start to determine the haves and the have-nots, particularly the haves.

The top three teams look pretty clear, with Duke and Gonzaga having been there from the start and Michigan playing as well as any team in the country. After that, Kansas and Virginia are looking rock solid as usual and Nevada looks like a serious problem (Do not sleep on the Wolf Pack!).

Anything beyond the top 12 teams is murky at best, so rather than give you a meaningless Top 25, let’s look at who would fill the all-important top four seed lines of the NCAA Tournament if it were to start today:

1 SEEDS:

Gonzaga (7-0) Best win: vs. Duke, 89-87.

Duke (7-1) Best win: vs. Auburn, 78-72.

Michigan (8-0) Best win: at Villanova, 73-46.

Virginia (7-0) Best win: vs. Wisconsin, 53-46.

2 SEEDS:

Kansas (6-0) Best win: vs. Michigan State, 92-87.

Nevada (8-0) Best win: at USC, 73-61.

Wisconsin (7-1) Best win: at Iowa, 72-66.

Auburn (6-1) Best win: vs. Arizona, 73-57.

3 SEEDS:

Michigan State (6-2) Best win: vs. Texas, 78-68.

Texas Tech (7-0) Best win: vs. Nebraska, 70-52.

Tennessee (6-1) Best win: vs. Louisville, 92-81.

North Carolina (6-2) Best win: vs. UCLA, 94-78.

4 SEEDS:

Ohio State (7-1) Best win: at Creighton, 69-60.

Virginia Tech (6-1) Best win: vs. Purdue, 89-83.

Nebraska (7-1) Best win: at Clemson, 68-66.

Buffalo (7-0) Best win: at West Virginia, 99-94 OT.
